Are your shipping practices undermining your green image?

Being a green business is a lot more than selling green products such as solar panels or low flush toilets. The company has to also operate in a way that promotes sustainability. A major part of that is how a company will receive parts and supplies from its vendors and how they will ship their products to the market. Poor shipping practices can tarnish an otherwise environmentally-friendly image. There are many factors that go into a company’s shipping and receiving departments. What materials are used to package the product? Does the company operate its own fleet of pickup and delivery vehicles or is a shipping company used? Are products shipped in bulk quantities or in smaller units? If given a choice, business people will choose to go with the most sustainable shipping company. In fact, many companies in Europe are already factoring sustainability in all their shipping decisions. The US government is doing likewise, particularly the EPA.
